Georgia Tech: Why do you want to study your chosen major specifically at Georgia Tech? (300 words)
For as long as I can remember, every family vacation has been interrupted by some logistics crisis. From blizzards closing I-70 through the Rocky Mountains to broken-down semi-trucks in the rural Great Plains, my family’s small freight brokerage loses insurmountable time and money on delays. Seeing these supply chain issues first-hand has inspired me to major in industrial engineering. At Georgia Tech, I hope to explore and improve global supply chain efficiency. To learn more about speeding up logistic bottlenecks, I aspire to join the FAThOM Research Group led by Dr. Gupta. I am amazed at her work in the field of inventory routing. Paired with a minor in Computing & Intelligence and my knowledge of “truck detention,” I intend to research and optimize software for supply chain management. In addition, I look forward to participating in hands-on courses like "Simulation Analysis & Design" and "Supply Chain Modeling: Logistics." Under Dr. Kim, I hope to gain a greater understanding of simulation modeling and data-based decision-making. By specifically focusing on the logistics side of supply chains, I want to expand my knowledge of freight transportation systems. As a Yellow Jacket, I would strive to join the ISyE Ambassadors. At a recent ISyE information session, Dr. Lowe highlighted the organization’s important work in strengthening leadership skills and coordinating the IISE Career Fair. Having spoken with numerous students about their Ambassador experiences in the CULC, I would take great pride in promoting Tech to prospective employers.

I peered over the board, shaking the dice in my hands and praying for anything but an 11. The dice clattered and came to a stop. 11. My sister leapt up with glee, taunting me as I grudgingly dragged my character from Atlantic Avenue to Park Place, a property practically sagging under the weight of four houses. “$1400!” she exclaimed, laughing at my paltry $370. I bit my tongue instead of hurling...

I have lost track of how many times I have rejected this essay, and, although it can be discouraging to re-draft it so many times, I don’t give up. So, I open up a new document on my computer, clear my head, and start fresh. I close my eyes and let my mind wander, stepping back out onto a familiar, windy beach. As the sky greys, clouds bring in light showers, scattering vacationers seeking she...
