Describe how your experiences, perspectives, talents, and/or your involvement in leadership activities (at your school, job, community, or within your family) will help you to make an impact both in and out of the classroom while enrolled at UT.
UT’s celebration of students as multifaceted individuals rather than one-dimensional thinkers is incredibly exciting to me. As the son of a teacher and the creator of two free online educational platforms for students, I believe learning is best achieved through connecting individuals from different backgrounds to expose them to new ways of thinking. While developing online platforms that offered free tutorials on STEM-related topics taught by myself and local teachers, I was able to recruit a multitude of content creators that connected students and teachers from the community. I hope to continue bringing communities together at UT by developing digital tools that encourage students from different academic backgrounds to share educational resources more effectively. I am also eager to make meaningful contributions to initiatives larger than myself. I would love to join UT’s Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers - Robotics and Automation Society (IEEE-RAS) to create a variety of robots for competitions and connect with a network of prospective engineers. I am excited to build a culture of support within the organizations by not only receiving mentorship, but also by paying it forward as I learn from older students. Additionally, my love for community service drives me to find additional ways to give back to the broader Austin community. I hope to use my experience presiding over my own city community service organization to expand the scale of the meaningful work The Project program from the Center for Community Engagement engages in. I look forward to working with fellow Longhorns on increasing the scope of positive impact UT can have on surrounding communities.

I peered over the board, shaking the dice in my hands and praying for anything but an 11. The dice clattered and came to a stop. 11. My sister leapt up with glee, taunting me as I grudgingly dragged my character from Atlantic Avenue to Park Place, a property practically sagging under the weight of four houses. “$1400!” she exclaimed, laughing at my paltry $370. I bit my tongue instead of hurling...

I have lost track of how many times I have rejected this essay, and, although it can be discouraging to re-draft it so many times, I don’t give up. So, I open up a new document on my computer, clear my head, and start fresh. I close my eyes and let my mind wander, stepping back out onto a familiar, windy beach. As the sky greys, clouds bring in light showers, scattering vacationers seeking she...
