School of Architecture: Describe a significant experience that deepened your interest in studying in the School of Architecture. (250 word answer)

My experience as a mentee at an international architecture firm has deepened my interest in studying architecture, a field of study that combines my passion for both design and science. While gaining more experience in a professional environment throughout the year in my mentorship, I am able to learn more about the day to day responsibilities of an architect. Through research and case studies, I am exposed to real plans created by the firm for various projects, which have emphasized to me the role of the architect as a leader and coordinator between engineers, designers, and other collaborators. In the future, I hope to visit current build sites as I follow a project through all steps of the design process as well as to learn more about the different types of architects, such as those specializing in health, landscaping, urban design, and more. I plan to focus on the relationship between sustainability and architecture for my final mentorship project and presentation, since preserving and protecting the environment is important to me. My mentorship has made me very excited that pursuing architecture as a future career would allow me to continue learning more about design and science while finding ways to make buildings more efficient, with lower carbon emissions, less wasted water, and less energy consumption. As weather patterns worsen with climate change, I hope to contribute to the design of buildings in the future that will better withstand natural disasters in addition to being more sustainable.
